I stand for patient autonomy, critical thinking, and the responsible use of AI to reclaim agency in healthcare.

Hi, I’m Hugo Campos, a research partner and patient advocate. I'm on a mission to show how patients can partner with technology to achieve equity in healthcare.

For too long, systems have been designed around institutional priorities, leaving patients with little voice or control. By combining patient autonomy with critical thinking and the responsible use of AI, I work to demonstrate that technology doesn’t have to reinforce dependency—it can be reclaimed as a tool for agency, fairness, and shared decision-making. My goal is to help create a healthcare future where patients are not just passive recipients of care, but active partners shaping it.

Why “Research Partner”?

For over two decades, I’ve worked as a research partner, not just a patient or participant, but an active collaborator in generating knowledge. As a Participant Ambassador for the NIH All of Us Research Program, a Participant Partner in the Nutrition for Precision Health Study, and a partner in multiple PCORI-funded research projects, I’ve learned what it takes to truly partner in research: asking better questions, finding and processing information together, and generating insights that matter to patients.

Research partnership means working with, not being studied on. It’s about bringing lived experience to the table alongside scientific expertise. That’s what I do, whether partnering with academic researchers, helping patients navigate their own health data, or developing frameworks for critical AI health literacy. The name reflects both my history and my approach: collaborative inquiry that puts patients at the center.

My Why

Healthcare often prioritizes profit over people. I believe AI and health data can flip that script, giving individuals the tools and insights to drive their own care.
